The People of GC

Established in 2012 as a part of the Leadership Education and Development Program within the Division of Student Life and in partnership with the College of Engineering, Grand Challenges Living Learning Community promotes student-driven cross-disciplinary teams that investigate the world's many complex problems.

Grand Challenges would not be possible without all of the people who do their part to support the students in the community.

The Faculty Co-Directors
The Co-Directors are also the professors for GC courses. They lead classroom discussions and activities to ensure that students in Grand Challenges learn how to frame and develop solutions to complex problems in a way that allows them to pick the best solution out of a myriad of ideas. They encourage their campus colleagues to participate in Grand Challenges, creating a rich and diverse group of faculty that interact with the community.

The Staff
The Assistant Director and Coordinators strengthen and engage the community outside of the classroom.. They develop programming that allows students to learn something valuable about themselves and their place in the world. They advocate for Grand Challenges students on campus and beyond and are dedicated to individual student development and growth. Our two coordinators have their offices in Cloudman and Howell Residence Halls and are enthusiastic about building personal relationships with their residents.

Facilitators
Grand Challenges Facilitators are upperclassmen or graduate students that advise teams as they progress from identifying a problem to developing a solution. Facilitators meet with teams during class and ensure that the team is continuing to make progress. Teams rely on facilitators for feedback on their teamwork, analysis of their problem space, and solution direction. Within the GC team, facilitators have the most hands-on relationship with teams and are the first point of contact for questions on projects.

Faculty Fellows
Grand Challenges Faculty Fellows (GCFF) are chosen from across all disciplines at Georgia Tech. These faculty have a great reputation among students, and we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to meet them!GCFFs have lunch, coffee or dinner with small groups of students throughout the semester. They also attend the poster sessions and presentations given by Grand Challenges students. Faculty Fellows  advise students on projects and research at Georgia Tech. They also love to discuss how everyone is enjoying GT and Atlanta.

Advisory Board
The Grand Challenges Advisory Board provides guidance and assistance in connecting Grand Challenges students with appropriate opportunities in their project space. The Advisory Board was established in 2014 to seek input from various stakeholders to push our students to a higher level of progress and thinking about their solutions to grand challenges.
