The TEKtronics team hopes to tap into small-scale sources of renewable energy, such as the energy generated when a key is pressed on a keyboard. Using triboelectricity, the energy generated by friction between materials, they can capture the energy of each key press and convert it to electricity. This electricity can then be used to charge a battery or power a device. They hope that, by providing a source of personal renewable energy, more people will become interested in working to conserve energy in their daily lives.
