In our Grand Challenges project, we aim to track and aid aherence to prescription drugs by students at Georgia Tech. Our solution involves implementing a digital pill bottle cap and companion mobile application to track, analyze, and record prescription drug usage. The proposed digitial cap is intended to track when a user opens and closes the pill cap, as well as pair with a moble app so that users are notified and reminded to take their medicine when necessary. In this manner, users will not only be reminded, but also will be held accountable if they fail to comply with their drug's intended use. Furthermore, since all of the users adherence data will be readily accessible by the companion app, we can display various metrics to help better inform the user on his/her habits. Prescription drugs are meant to be taken for a reason; without adherence to them, they are useless. With such measures, we hope that inconsistent users will more regularly adhere to their drugs intended use to aid against the harms that the drugs are originally meant to prevent.
